Don't be silly - part of what you are paying for is the advertisments - the opportunity to be sold all the other movies they want you to buy. Do you think that the trailer and marketing people work for free? wait (Thursday, 18 Feb 2010) Reply
Do you mean if I download a pirated movie I don't get those awesome and exciting colourful extras? I must have been doing it wrong all along! Local Furry (Friday, 19 Feb 2010) Reply
OR you can watch it on your computer since several players (many in Linux) can SKIP that crap. You may go thank your local RIAA and MPAA for the DMCA and hope they DIAF! -=LaurryG=- (Friday, 19 Feb 2010)
...We always get someone like this... Steve (Sunday, 21 Feb 2010)
Unfortunately they still consider it illegal to watch a DVD under Linux, because there is no officially licensed player that can decrypt it. That said, no one cares, and it works well. But the point is they still consider it illegal. handell (Friday, 19 Feb 2010) Reply
Im a digital jacker. LOL (no pun intended) and theres not been one movie I havent got to watch when I wanted too. dfg (Friday, 19 Feb 2010)

Except if you're a pirate, you apparently get to watch an American sitcom about dysfunctional family instead of sci-fi classic. Pedant (Friday, 19 Feb 2010)
NO. Piracy is COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT: if I steal an apple you no longer HAVE that apple ... if I make an illegal COPY then you still have your old DVD while I have an exact duplicate of the data that is on it. More importantly when I went from record albums (I'm old) to tape cassettes I had to buy a second copy of the old album in the new format and then buy yet ANOTHER copy when I went from cassette to CD ... when I went from CD to MP3 I just ripped the songs right from the CD and ignored the over priced DRM'd shit that was on iTunes when it first came out (now that it's DRM free and .99$ a song I'll consider it an option for NEW stuff I don't already own in 2 or 3 formats). That's actually NOT legal under the DMCA as it makes it a crime to 'break or circumvent any form of DRM' just like it's not legal to make a copy of a DVD to your HD or iPod or whatever. Right now a bigger issue is eBooks where the publishers want to charge you more for a digital copy of a textbook than they charge for the PAPERBACK ... so I say ARRR MATEY!! Eventually they'll come around to reason and I'll start giving Amazon or iBooks $2 or so per unDRM'd PDF/kindel/iPad book...or I'll just keep hitting the Library : ) Ruben (Tuesday, 23 Feb 2010)

This is actually one of the reasons I always hesitate to buy games/films. I bought DIRT 2 and while waiting for the game to rive played the pirate version. Completed the game, the day my disk arrived. austrian guy (Friday, 19 Feb 2010) Reply
lol, wtf? Austrian DVDs also have trailers and Crap, but the First thing you see is a screen, that says "press menu to get to the main-menu" so you can skip all those trailers. but OMG, the 2-3 second outro of the dvd menu is still there, STOP STEALING MY LIFETIME!!! Clod (Friday, 19 Feb 2010)

Lol i still use VHS because that's how we roll in eastern europe. Ricky (Thursday, 25 Feb 2010) Reply
I remember you used to be able to skip right to the main menu back when we first got DVD's. Then the piracy started and we had to start sitting through everything, or at least having to annoyingly fast forward through each individual trailer. That's why I used to d/l more than I buy, of course, now i have netflix and pay $10 to watch a shit ton of movies and tv shows along with instantly streaming them online. marcStaR (Tuesday, 4 May 2010) Reply
