chiefaberach (Saturday, 7 Nov 2009) Reply I'd like to see a more in-depth analysis of the swine-flu so far. How many people with swine flu were vaccinated for other types of flu just before they got it? What percentage of people with flu have been positively tested for swine-flu (not just my GP thinks so)? Maybe I'm looking at the wrong site? Where did you find this graphic? I love these kind of things. Hans Rosling makes brilliant animated graphics on which he does a kind of sports commentary - check out his videos on www.ted.com Springbok (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Welcome to teh internetz, Sparky. Rosling is old news. 666omega666 (Saturday, 7 Nov 2009) Reply This graph is ridiculously misleading. The swine flu is very new for a disease, and hasnt mutated much. Its not particularly dangerous in its current state, true enough, but if you look at the statistics of people who DO have it, its obviously more dangerous than people give it credit for - it kills healthy, young adults at a much MUCH higher rate than flu does (by percentage, not amount, of course). The reason the government, CDC, and the like are stressing crushing swine flu quickly is because it has the potential to be INCREDIBLY deadly! If we destroy it now, while its relatively harmless (still deadly) we dont have to worry about it, but if we do nothing it could easily spread, mutate, and kill millions. So, people who are like "Psh, swine flu, its totally harmless", take note. Shut up, take some precautions, and get the over it. Not 666omega666 (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Hello Mr. Bush, welcome home. Now, on behalf of the internet, I need to tell you to stfu. Thanks. skippy (Monday, 9 Nov 2009) what happened to bird flu...that was going to be a big one...wasnt it...FOOL!!!! money rules (Friday, 13 Nov 2009) Swine Flu is just another flu , and treated with some lemon and anti-flu medicines , it passes in about 2-3 weeks max. However the pressure comes from the big medical drugs corporations and medical products distribution companies , who push governments for multi-billion dollar solutions to the problem . Remember mad cow disease , bird flu , SARS , and many other soap bubbles that killed only a couple thousand people while companies made billions . You have to understand that tens of thousands die every year only of HUNGER . But hunger is not a disease , and you can't make money over it , right ? So why involve ? Let's scare wealthy ( and stupid ) pupulation so we might get rich ! It's simply politics and bussines . numbers (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply At least the Canary Islands numbers are made up. The toll in all of Spain is 70 or so as of today, and even then there's no particularly high incidence in the islands. PARTEH TIEM (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply Hey guys! We just passed Leprosy! Lets give it up for Swine flu! Woo! LogiC (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply This is misleading. Its not the number of deaths that matters. Its the percent of people that die after infection. If 200 people got an infection and 100 of those died that is an awful disease. This picture is like saying "lol only 100 died". Now to get an actual idea of how dangerous swine flu is you need how many were infected and how many died from infection. user (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) along with death cases per infection cases You have to consider probability to become infected. As I can conclude from chart, probability to die from cardiovascular disease or cancer is thousends of times bigger than from swine flu. hairy_testicles (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply the government doesnt want to destroy it, they released it! they are just covering there asses.. user (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply Maybe stop eating too much and stop smoking? Cardiovascular diseases is real problem. Voice of the truth (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply Swine flu = Lab made reason for you to buy a vaccine. Vaccine that will make you get the next one. The horse flu. Hello world, wake up. dbr (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Eurasia, Asia... I bet Michael Paukner is american. Cousin to Mr. Obvious (Sunday, 8 Nov 2009) Reply Most telling stat? Life causes 100% of death through all ages and times. No one escapes alive. Lica (Monday, 9 Nov 2009) No, no, spare me! ttt (Monday, 9 Nov 2009) Reply I must buy my expensive vaccine.. nnngh ... noo! get out of my head.. must buy preshes vaccine.. no, statistics good to us, swine flu like normal flu... ghhhhhrr even though swine flu is pretty dangerous to persons, who already has some complications (cancer, heart or any other), it really isn't a big deal. I wish we had a small ebola epidemy, so people would finally open their eyes to what garbage media tells us. K9 (Monday, 9 Nov 2009) Reply Yeah, the number of deaths are tiny, but that's because there's advanced medicine and it's not World War I with millions living and fighting in close quarters. It's the same disease that killed two million people 90 years ago out of 2 billion in the world, 1 of every 1000 on Earth. There was good reason for concern about H1N1, just not the panic and fear mongering that's been going on. It's only 1 of every million dying this time. Mydge (Tuesday, 10 Nov 2009) Reply My goodness... the ignorance of some ppl... If you are old/unwell/have chronic illnesses/immunosuppressive disorders.. Yes, Swine Flu may kill you just like pneumonia may kill you. If you are young/fit/healthy/generally okay health... it will be just like a flu.... Oh and @Nea... Neuropsych = Parkinson's, organic dementia etc... Doctor (Friday, 13 Nov 2009) Reply The H1N1 flu virus killed an estimated 50-100 million people in 1918 and 1919. This is no joke. ANTI- Doctor (Friday, 13 Nov 2009) 100 million ?! World War 2 killed 60 million , you idiot ! How can you say such a monstruosity ?!?! It killed less than 2 million , many of which died from complications because or hunger and poor living conditions ! You should be shot for such a statement ! philistine-detector (Friday, 13 Nov 2009) The statement 'Doctor' made is true, 'Anti-doctor'. The estimate is that 20-100 million people died during the 'Spanish' flu pandemic of 1918-19, whereas the TOTAL WW1 death toll was 16 million, including civilians. That's well documented fact. However, scientists & med experts now suggest that people didn't die from the flu virus itself, they died from bacterial infections (ie, pneumonia) that were complications of the flu infection. Anti-doctor, I suggest you indulge in some real research to substantiate your statements - youre way off the reality. winterhog (Monday, 16 Nov 2009) Reply Well "20-100 million" means that the estimation has a 400% error margin, what renders it pretty useless. However, remember that Spanish Influencza pandemic occured 10 years before first antibiotic was discovered, 90 years ago and after a major war. Living conditions and health care can hardly be even compared between now and then. Furthermore, there are many strains of influenza and many of them may mutate into lethal form. boombyte (Wednesday, 18 Nov 2009) Reply So, having a great number of old and weak people succumb to a large array of diseases is equal to a case of 33yr old healthy man dying in FIVE days after catching swine flu in my small town in the middle of Europe last week? I don't think so. Socialist Security (Friday, 20 Nov 2009) Reply Boy, if we get rid of enough of the elderly, Obama may be able to balance the budget yet and save social security! |
