Especially if she thinks that "hole" in her car is an ashtray anon (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009) Reply
If she lit the smoke, the flame would ignite the gas, but a cigarette won't do it. You can throw a cigarette in gas and it will just put it out. Maff (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009)
It's not the gas/petrol she needs to worry about. The fumes are the danger. You're correct, the petrol would probably put the cigarette out but it's usually the fumes that go kablooey. LandLord (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009)
anon: why don't you prove that by doing it and later posting a video on YouTube? theEngineer (Monday, 6 Jul 2009)
Anon is correct , technically the ignition temperature of gasoline fumes is much higher than that of the cigarette . You can try this yourself , hold a a lighter so that the butane rises to the cigarette. Quest you are confusing the quality and quantity of heat. The cigarette does have sufficient quantity of heat but not quality (temperature) to cause ignition. On the other hand a "spark" contain a quantity of heat but a high temperature (quality of heat). B (Monday, 6 Jul 2009)
when she is inhaling smoke, the tip of cigarette should be hot enough to ignite petrol fumes, right? theEngineer (Tuesday, 7 Jul 2009)
B When she is inhaling the temperature of the tip will increase from 400C to 795C. Gasoline autoignition temperature is around 495 , but the correct air/gas mixture must be present to cause ignition. meme (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009) Reply
She sure seems to be an expert in grasping that nozzle...practice much? 55 (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009) Reply
actually it is very hard to light gasoline with a cigarette. If you have some place to test it, put some in a cup and glue the cigarette to some pole. Try it Grim (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009) Reply
Fumes in open air will almost never have the right concentration. If she dropped the cigarette in the can it might blow up IF it was filled to the right degree. Its actually pretty hard to get gasoline fumes to ignite. done it (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009) Reply
I have never seen a cig light the fumes or gas. Witnessed and done this a few times. I ain't saying it won't happen (on a really hot day lean over it and take a big drag????) but if you don't actively smoke on it your pretty safe. guest (Sunday, 5 Jul 2009) Reply
It is true... a cigarette does not contain sufficient heat to reach the flash point of liquid gasoline. This is in part to the low boiling point of gasoline. It vapourizes very quickly when the cigarette touches it, so the heat in the cigarette plummets. As for the vapour, it needs flame, or spark to cause it to ignite. However... gasoline vapour IS far more explosive than the liquid form. 123 (Monday, 6 Jul 2009)
Like... totally agree to Anon Jontish (Tuesday, 7 Jul 2009) Reply
Normally there would be no danger to smoke when handling gas (the fluid), however on gas stations there's alot of gas (the state of matter) in the air which could ignite. GL (Tuesday, 7 Jul 2009) Reply
you all fail ... gas fumes are actually quite easy to light with a smoke you just have to know which way the wind is blowing and i know this because i do it all the time Photosleuth (Tuesday, 7 Jul 2009) Reply

It must be in Russia cost the sign at the top right says 26852695 for gas and 34053455 for diesel (seems pretty expensive to me) Edgars (Friday, 24 Jul 2009) Reply
It`s in Russia, and she is from 78th region, and thats not in the gas station. Nothing will happen with the cigarette. Go to Egypt, theres some crazy stuff. Thous freaks smoke`s at gas stations, and thats quite uncomfortable Noo_Noo (Monday, 27 Jul 2009) Reply
Er, if that 'gas' can is black then she's filling the car with Diesel most likely. Diesel won't ignite with a cigarette. But still, let's all laugh at the woman. har har. Who's the retard again? ;) |
