...when your IRS began auditing said groups, it wasn't because of the information gatherers, without a doubt. I'd rather say it had to do with said Agency being used with a different intent than it should. It's up to you fine gent whether you want to delve further into the subject or not.

Those conservative groups were applying for tax breaks intended to go to, basically, charities, tax breaks that cannot go to political organizations. The IRS was auditing mostly groups with "Tea Party" in their names, which are clearly politically-aligned.
